This live recording of Toad the Wet Sprocket's "Before You Were Born" is still just as awesome and powerful to me as it was when I first heard it many years ago.

I am permanently stuck in 1993. When the 11-year-old inside me isn't downloading Miley Cyrus and Metro Station tracks from iTunes while reading Tamora Pierce novels, that is.

Took two loads of books to the awesome used bookstore today. It's easier than trying to mail things everywhere, really. Plus I so far have $56 in store credit plus On the Road and Che Guevara's Motorcycle Diaries for my troubles. :D

Should be a fun week. Tuesday: flight to my parents' place; Wednesday: the Rather Awkward portion of the family visit (for once, not my fault! the family has a new black sheep); Thursday: Turkey! Yay!; Friday: hang out at the teahouse in town and read books; Saturday: fly back to Vancouver; Sunday: get the keys to the new place and move some stuff. Forecast for my parents' town is mid-20s and sun, so there will be plenty of time sitting outside the teahouse.

Yay, Tamora Pierce!! :D

The Song of the Lioness books were the first fantasy novels I read. I was like, 8, and had no idea such books existed.

Mine were the DragonLance Chronicles. :( I didn't discover Tamora Pierce until a little later--I found the Wild Magic trilogy in my middle school library, and went from there.

I actually really loved the First Test/Page/Squire/Knight series.

and once again, just for the sheer bloody-mindedness of affairs, we're heading across Georgia Strait while you are somewhere else. It's beginning to feel like a Bugs Bunny re-run; there is absolutely nothing to recommend BC Ferries 'food'..... :(

great excuse for caloric reduction, anyway.

Ah, 'tis unfortunate. But this should be my last big trip for a little while, at least.

Fun fact: A band I was in covered "Before You Were Born" for a Toad the Wet Sprocket tribute album recorded, compiled, and distributed entirely by a fan group. We later covered "One Little Girl" for Volume 2 of the compilation.

Hee, that's awesome. I once posted that I was listening to this synthpop band, and a person on my friends list said "I used to do vocals for them back in Hawaii, when they were named something else!"

I have a friends list of wide and varied talents, which I find awesome.

That is one of the most powerful songs. I love it too.

Oh Tamora Pierce. ilu even though all your characters veer dangerously close to being Mary Sues. Daine is still my favorite, although Kel does follow very closely behind.
